What was your most memorable moment?

All moments in Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica were memorable! A favourite however was our last day which was a combo hiking/kayaking/zodiac excursion on a glorious sunny day through icebergs and penguin colonies at Cuverville Island. Antarctica doesn’t get better than this!

Tell us about the wildlife

The wildlife was amazing! There is such an abundance and variety of everything on shore and off. Even our at sea days were full of sea birds around the ship and whales close by. We saw thousands of penguins and seals everywhere we went. With the kayaking and zodiac cruises we got perspective of animals from the water as well!

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Yes the zodiac excursions were my favorite. Very relaxing and wonderful way to see the animals and shorelines. Great way to look at icebergs as well! Probably my favourite thing to do. Yes we felt safe. Our zodiac guys were good drivers and very careful.

Tell us about the expedition team

We had an exceptional expedition team. I am amazed at how knowledgable and informative they all were. We had some amazing lectures with added personal experiences as well as historical overviews. My favorite, I think was the geology. A little over my head, but extremely interesting.

Tell us about the Seaventure

We went for the veranda suite. Yes, a little more pricey, but definitely worth the expense. We were able to get a good look at the horizon during rough waters and on the sunny days able to sit outside. Often when whale sightings happened, we were able to see them from our own little deck. The room was a good space, modern and clean. No complaints.

Tell us about the Kayaking

The kayaking was incredible. However, due to weather conditions, we were only able to go three times. Of those three times the first was an opportunity to get used to it. I am an experience, paddler and enjoyed seeing the wildlife, icebergs and shoreline from the water. Many, however, were beginners. It is hard to say whether it is worth the expense as it is, so weather dependent. There were two groups of 14 so our time was also split. In the end our last two excursions in Antarctica were so amazing it was really worth it for me. I think the zodiacs were almost as good and you wouldn’t miss out if you didn’t do the kayaking.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

It is a long way to go and a lot of money, but truly worth it in the end. You will have an experience you will remember forever. Fortunately, by the time we went to Anactica the crew was able to deal with the Covid situation. No one had to quarantine and testing was optional. This was a big relief for all of us. Those who tested positive had meals in their rooms and were able to do the excursions on a separate zodiac. I really appreciate decisions being made around this. Although we did not get sick ourselves due to wearing masks most of the time we were relieved to have the pressure lifted

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Antarctica is different than I had imagined it to be. It is very lonely, but beautiful place. The weather can make a huge difference to each at every day. It is incredible to think of all the marine life down there, living and surviving. I am very glad we included Falkland and south, Georgia, islands, and our itinerary. The animals were amazing!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I think Swoop has lots of experience and needs to continue doing what they are doing. We were very happy in the end with the results of booking through this company.

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

I think times were a bit difficult during Covid, and there were some staff turnovers that we were not expecting. This seem to be the norm among travel agencies everywhere however. We were glad our agent Ali who was new to us hung in there. I think a reduction in my stress level would have been around confirmation immediately after the balance of our payment. Otherwise everything else was great. Communication was good and appreciated the odd phone call along the way.
