Were Swoop right to recommend Oceanwide Expeditions?
Yes
Tell us about the wildlife
Wildlife is that, wild, you can't plan it, but Antarctica is a great place that gives you good chances to encounter wildlife. We were lucky to encounter whales (orcas, minkys, humpbacks), seals (elephant, leopard), penguins (gentoo, adelie, etc.) and many birds.
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Great Zodiac excursions, the guides were very skilled to drive them (highly necessary in windy conditions). I felt safe all the time.
Tell us about the expedition team
Very knowledgeable and friendly. The lectures were great (ice, whales, seals, icebergs, weather, antarctic politics, etc.). They were highly skilled with the Zodiacs which gave us the peace to enjoy the cruising.
Tell us about the Hondius
It's a nice vessel, happy to see that is an adequate vessel for the Antarctic sea with reinforced windows, etc. The food was great, always with many options even if you are vegetarian or vegan. The quad-cabin was very good, knowing that this is a vessel, we had enough space to be comfortable. I would choose Hondious again.
Tell us about the Camping
Great experience to sleep out there. I would highly recommend this to anyone! The guides are prepared with everything you need, and they take care that we don't leave much mark of our presence there.
Tell us about the Kayaking
The highight of my trip. I loved to be able to do kayaking in Antarctica. You live a different experience from a point of view close to the water level. When you stop paddling, you can hear the voice of nature, ice cracking, birds singing, it's just unbelievable. Highly recommended to anyone with basic knowledge of kayaking.
Something Else?
As Swoop Antarctica, I would try to fine-tune the details of boarding the vessel, to let your clients know that there is such a thing as check-in and luggage storage.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Be flexible (weatherwise), be curious, bring a camera and enjoy the trip of your life.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
In how important is for us to help to protect Antarctica. I consider myself now an ambassador of Antarctica.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Improve the communication before boarding (check in with Oceanwide Exp to know if they have a reunion point, luggage storage, etc.).
Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?
You gave very good recommendations, and the webinar was really helpful.
