What was your most memorable moment?
A perfect day on Stonington Island. The temperature was about 45*F, no wind, and bright sun. We were off ship to go visit the earliest remaining US Antarctic Camp (circa 1940). The magic started as we headed back. The Greg Mortimer was in this small bay waiting for all the zodiacs to get back to ship. We were in no hurry... but heading back, the floating sheet ice was continually moving with the current and making a "jigsaw puzzle" effect in the entire bay. None of the 5 zodiacs could follow the same path back. It was such a surreal feeling zig-zagging back and forth through the sheet ice... each zodiac finding its own path in the quiet and still bay. No one spoke... no one wanted to break the magic.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions
I had SO MUCH FUN!!! I had never been in a zodiac before and loved every minute. I felt safe at all times, had confidence in the drivers, and LOVED doing Citizen Science from a zodiac daily.
Tell us about the expedition team
WOW! They were all so incredible. I can't pick a favorite staff member as they all were kind, informed, and each had their own area of expertise. They made a wonderful team. I felt safe with each and every member, and felt free to ask any questions that I may have had.
Tell us about the Greg Mortimer
What a beautiful ship! New, clean, great food (A+), well designed and the "theater" was well designed and comfortable to use for many events. (Loved the freshly made cookies that were out all day!!!!) My room was the nicest I've ever had on a ship (of any size) and made me jealous I hadn't thought to have floor heaters in MY bathroom at home! Heaven!!
Tell us about Ushuaia
I didn't see much of Ushuaia. The hotel was up on the hill, and by the time I arrived... I just stayed in the hotel. The catamaran ride was a lot of fun! It was a lovely surprise, and a great way to start the cruise. We were very lucky with the weather and had a great tour of the Beagle Channel.
Something Else?
Thank you for making a dream come true!!! I'm grateful!!!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Don't spend every minute behind your camera. Live the experience and take it all in.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
There was a poem that our team leader (Alex) left us with. It sums up for me the way I feel about the wildlife we saw. I'm sorry I can't cut and paste it here. But it is by Henry Beston. It starts out: "We need another and wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals."
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
No recommendations. Everything was PERFECT!
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Very. And due to the preparation, I was never cold or wet.
