What was your most memorable moment?
Seeing my first large building-size iceberg in real life was heart-stopping. I also saw ice fields and tried to imagine what it is like when everything is frozen.
Which of the following best describes your adventure?
Life changing
On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend or colleague?
10 out of 10
On a scale of 0 to 10, how would you rate your trip: Crossing the Antarctic Circle?
9 out of 10
Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?
Yes
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Every time I was on the Zodiac, I felt very safe. The entire team was stellar; if I tried to name them, I might leave one out, and I am not going to do that. They were in charge, and snorkeling was AWESOME!
Tell us about the expedition team
The Expedition team was more knowledgeable than I thought. I didn't know they would be the entertainment, but they were. I left there more knowledgeable about seals, penguins, whales, clouds, and krill!! The lectures were a great way to make you think about what is in the oceans, where you live, and everywhere. Bia brought that to light when ordering fish as an entree for dinner.
Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
Did the Syliva Earl live up to my expectations? More than I could have ever imagined. The cleanliness and layout were nothing like the pictures. The chef was wonderful, greeting you and offering recommendations and suggestions on ordering 1/2 if you weren't very hungry but still wanted a meal and variety. His staff was so sweet and kind. My cabin—totally blown away!! Zaday was the gentleman who took care of my cabin; there was no way to truly thank him enough when I departed. I do plan to follow the ship on another sailing; yes, I will.
Tell us about the Snorkelling
Snorkeling, I had so much fun. I never felt unsafe; I am a scuba diver. Eddie, Pete, and Edwin made the event a lot of fun, as did the snorkelers!!!!! We had a blast..
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Please don't overpack. Two sets of base layers are all you need. Two thick pairs of socks are for the muck boots. The remaining socks are for the boat. Two pairs of pants are also needed for the ship, as are a couple of fleece tops and t-shirts with wicking material. Two pairs of cold-weather pants, straight leg, are needed to tuck in your muck boots. Waterproof gloves and seal skin make a good glove.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I am already a nature person; I like the cold outdoors, where I like to spend my time, even though I live in Florida. I will go to the artic.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
How about a departing video from Aurora two weeks before everyone leaves their home stations, saluting them on their adventure soon to begin?
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
For me, the trip was like counting down to Christmas. I started to get anxious the closer I got to departing.
