Overall, how was your trip?

The highlight was mountain climbing in a snowstorm. Meeting a lot of interesting and accomplished people was the surprising part of the trip. I was shocked at how bad the seasickness was. I normally do well on boats, but I did get sick. I received adequate warning to prepare, but it was still shocking.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

I think it is a very remote and unique place to visit. Very few places on earth have the vastness of Antarctica. I got the feeling of a "long journey" that I was hoping for.

Would you visit again?

Yes

How was the service that Swoop provided?

I am very glad I booked with a polar specialist. I would have chosen a different itinerary if I had gone with a local travel agent, and I probably would not have enjoyed it. I also felt I was prepared for the trip. The Fin Del Mundo hike was a great experience by itself, I am very glad I booked it.

You chose a/an Antarctic Basecamp Adventure experience. How was that experience?

This met my expectations. It was the best choice for me. We had several cancellations due to the weather, and the materials gave adequate warning of this risk. The unpredictability of Antarctica is part of the adventure! My one suggestion: let passengers chose 1 activity that they would most like to do. I understand it is difficult to coordinate all of these activities, but it might be a nice touch. The food quality and service were both excellent and greatly exceeded my expectations.

If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?

I booked a hike the day before our cruise. There was a change in the time I would be picked up at the hotel, but it worked out great.

How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?

Highlights: A challenging mountaineering expedition in the snow. The icebergs were incredible; I had no idea they would have so many unique shapes to them. The expedition staff was fantastic; I enjoyed connecting with them as part of the entire trip.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Be prepared for seasickness and unpredictable weather. The challenge of getting to Antarctica is what makes it an adventure. You will meet some great people on a basecamp adventure. Get to know them.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

Camping and mountaineering in Antarctica were one of the highlights of my year.
