What was your most memorable moment?
Too many to list, the animals, the feeling that it’s a place where humans have never existed, the realization that traveling there is dependent on the whims of the sea and weather that are out of human control
Which of the following best describes your adventure?
Great holiday
On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend or colleague?
10 out of 10
On a scale of 0 to 10, how would you rate your trip: Crossing the Antarctic Circle?
10 out of 10
Tell us about the Greg Mortimer
This ship was wonderful in every way, very comfortable, just the right size and the food was so amazing- I haven’t eaten that well in a long time. After this, I’ll never be able to take a “regular” cruise.
Tell us about the expedition team
I liked all the lectures, they gave a lot of information that gave context to what we were seeing on our excursions. Staff was great, hard to pick favorites but I did especially enjoy Boris zodiac driving, the tall gal who got everyone organized in the mud room, our historian- so knowledgeable and fun to talk to - and of course Mario and his morning greetings, plus his many other announcements that kept us informed and entertained
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Make sure you allow for weather delays- in the modern world we are used to being able to count on things happening on schedule, that is not true for the Antarctic. It does make you think about how insulating we are from risk and uncertainty.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
We as humans define the world based on our needs. Antarctica is substantially unaffected by humans. It’s like going to another planet. Also, fun to tell people that Arctic means bears, Antarctica means no bears.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Again, Carys was excellent, our trip was well planned and when necessary, adapted to changing situations. Aurora and Greg Mortimer were excellent, I couldn’t add anything to improve it
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I had a tough time packing for this trip as we were going to so many climates and I was uncertain as to what to bring- the biggest mistake I made was to use a too small suitcase- I was so worried about the weight limit on the flight out. I could have used a bigger bag at the same weight to make packing and repacking easier . As far as being “excited” I just wasn’t sure what to expect- the prep was good, I was having trouble getting my head around it.
