Tell us about Zodiac excursions
They were amazing. Felt very safe & provided a great bonding experience.
Tell us about the expedition team
Second to none. They were absolutely amazing, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Jonathan Green, Dr Keith Mountain, Jon, Matt & Sarah. It is very difficult to choose what was our favorite lecture - they were all brilliant. I must also mention Danny's lecture on indigenous people - excellent. Their handling of the Polar Plunge (always on my bucket list,) was exceptional. My claim to fame was I was the oldest female on the trip to do so. Leaping on LEAP YEAR (29th Feb) was incredible.
Tell us about the Camping
Loved, loved it. As challenging as we expected. However, the cold didn't bother us. Sleeping bags were cozy. Would definitely recommend it. What a memory.
Tell us about Ushuaia
Very touristy. However, . Restaurants were decently priced. The highlight was trekking through Tierra del Fuego National Park. We did this on our own & spent hours there, along with a second day trekking at Laguna Esmeralda.
Something Else?
We would like to mention Captain Gilles and his crew. He always kept the Bridge open (when it was safe to do so). Taking us around Cape Horn (because the good weather on the Drake gave us extra time) was the Icing on the Cake.
Tell us about the MS Expedition
We loved our Red Ship. What a gal. Our twin cabin, class 3, was absolutely perfect for our needs. We are sailors so after living on a sailboat, our cabin was pure luxury. The food was totally out of this world. Chef Tony, his amazing crew, and Joe, the Hotel Manager, made us feel so special as if we were the only passengers they ever had. Cannot believe they turn the ship around and head out again the same evening - and always smiling. Would choose MS Expedition again in a New York heartbeat (as they say). Have already recommended her to interested friends, telling them to forget the big cruise lines. Expedition over cruise anytime - for us.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
We were so prepared for this trip, due in fact to the many communications we received from Swoop. We are world travellers (previous trips were following Orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra and also sailing up the Indian Ocean ifor 17 days in a Catamaran). But let me tell you, our excitement level for this trip was off the charts
Would you consider another trip to Antarctica with Swoop?
Yes
Would you be interested in travelling to Patagonia with Swoop?
No
Would you be interested in travelling to The Arctic with Swoop?
Yes
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Stay away from the big Cruise ships. They are "drive byes" Expedition ships are more personal, offer more options and are so careful with Biosecurity.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
The oceans, flora, fauna & animals need more attention than ever before.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Keep doing what you are doing. You are so professional and always at the end of a phone line.
