What was your most memorable moment?

I was kayaking and we turned the corner to find three humpback whales on the top of the water. We stopped to watch them, and they all turned towards us and began to dive under us. It was a truly magical experience.

Were Swoop right to recommend Antarctica 21?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

The staff and zodiacs were great.

Tell us about the expedition team

They were all very knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed learning about the animals, the ice, and the superstitions.

Tell us about the Magellan Explorer

The ship was spotless. I loved my cabin. The food was good. I have no complaints about the ship.

Tell us about the Kayaking

My most memorable experience was kayaking and an encounter that we had with whales. However, I was a little frustrated with the kayaking guide and the program. The kayaking got cut short a number of times. One day we only got to be on the kayaks for 30 minutes. I don't feel like it was worth the almost $1,000 to kayak. The guide was pretty rigid which took away from the experience. I also would have liked to have access to a solo kayak. I wasn't traveling with anybody so having to share a kayak with a stranger wasn't ideal. I wanted to feel safe and trust the other person in the kayak.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Bring lots of layers. The weather changes every ten minutes. Don't spend your time looking at your phone or sleeping in your cabin during the day. Sit along the windows and watch the icebergs float by with penguins on them. An opportunity that you will not see everyday.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It reinforced my belief to live like it is your last day of life. I embraced every opportunity on the trip and have no regrets.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I was very happy with the experience.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
