Were Swoop right to recommend Polar Latitudes?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Felt very safe. Handled with complete professionalism. I preferred the landings to the cruises. We did an especially gorgeous cruise on a totally calm and cloudless day in Fournier bay amidst a flurry/swarm of icebergs. It was reflective magic.

Tell us about the expedition team

They were all great. 10/10. One comment - the expedition leader who was otherwise more than fantastic/spectacular at her job, went out of her way on 3 occasions to mock the Argentinians on board for their feelings/opinions about the Falklands/Malvinas. It bothered several passengers with whom I spoke about it. It also made us realize that the whole trip had a very British bent --- we had a marvellous historian on board - beloved by all, including me - but his teachings were really only British Antarctic history. Not sure why the trip's emphasis should be only on British points of view or accomplishments.

Tell us about the Seaventure

Excellent ship. Nice cabin with huge bathroom. Excellent food and lots of choices. All the crew were awesome - clearly the captain has the excellence of our trip front and centre. Can't say enough about the level of service! I would happily choose this boat again. One comment - I was originally booked as 1 of 3 in a shared cabin. One of the others took one look and upgraded to a cabin on her own. And I have to admit, the cabin would have been unpleasantly crowded with three of us. For 2, it was excellent.

Tell us about the Paddling

I did 1 paddle and found it very uninspiring. Very short, very constrained. I would not recommend it.

Something Else?

Loved the Citizen Science. The 2 scientists from Wood's Hole were excellent science communicators and well able to explain what they were studying and why. I was very impressed. I participated in collecting samples with them - it was great. I also took part in Citizen Science sessions on cloud observation and I learned a lot.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Don't miss South Georgia.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I don't think so.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Not really - I felt the service I got was perfect.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

Yes and yes! I really made use of the podcasts you recommended and that made a big difference.
