What was your most memorable moment?

Impossible to pick one moment. Our first day had bright sunny, clear skies and it was incredible just to look around and take it all in.

Were Swoop right to recommend Silversea Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about the Silver Endeavour

Silversea's boat was AMAZING. Loved the combination of luxury and expedition! Cabin was huge with plenty of room to relax and unpack. Food at every restaurant was DELICOUS. Full bars made fancy cocktails. I'd go on this ship again in a heartbeat. Only regret is not doing a longer trip!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

If you have anything (like a book) that you want to ensure doesn't get wet, put it in a bag-- even inside your suitcase. We had a bit of a choppy embarkation day and one of our suitcases ended up pretty soaked inside. Do every excursion. Days are long, but every excursion is worth it! Thin merino wool liner gloves were my favorite item I packed. I never wanted to keep my big snow gloves on because I was constantly taking pictures. Winter coat and boots provided by our tour company were sufficient-- coats and boots we packed from home just ended up taking up extra space in our bags. Not needed.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Expedition cruises are not just for old people! Often cruises are thought of as only for "old people" that are 80+. Not so for this trip. Most people were 50s-60s, but several younger couples in their 30s and 40s as well. Getting on and off zodiaks requires decent mobility and hiking on land can be a bit slippery. Definitely recommended for people that are still steady on their feet.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

My sales person had been on my exact trip before. I wish our main support person had gotten a chance to go on the trip and share first hand experience as well. Because swoop supports several companies, it was confusing sometimes was was true for our particular trip vs others. (For example, articles weren't always clear about where we'd receive a full winter coat or just a parka.) I wish we could have been given a little more information specific to our cruise in advance.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

EXTREMELY! Our support person, Alexandra, had us well prepared and jazzed for our journey. She was super helpful!
