Immense Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires’ eclectic districts can feel like entirely different towns, from the grand boulevards of Recoleta and the colourful street art in Palermo to the lively tango culture of historic San Telmo and La Boca.
We’ve used our firsthand local knowledge to handpick the most comfortable hotels in the best locations to make your city stay unforgettable.
Where to stay in Buenos Aires
When travelling to Antarctica, we recommend basing yourself in the stylish districts of Palermo or Recoleta to make the most of your stopover time. Both neighbourhoods are packed with character and have excellent shopping and dining opportunities. Just 10 minutes by taxi from the city’s domestic Jorge Newbery International Airport, they are also well located.
Recoleta, the city’s most upmarket district, is known for French neoclassical architecture and sweeping tree-lined avenues that contribute towards Buenos Aires’ reputation as the ‘Paris of South America’. In contrast, Palermo exudes a bohemian atmosphere, with eye-catching murals, trend-setting boutiques, and quirky bistros where tables spill out onto the streets.

Hotels in Buenos Aires: FAQs
-
What is the standard of hotels in Buenos Aires?
You can expect most hotels to be of the standard you’d expect in a comparable city back home, with one notable exception: the hotel's rating. A 4* hotel in Argentina is likely to be slightly more ‘basic’ than its American / European equivalent. We have tried to select hotels where this mismatch is not significant.
-
Will the staff speak English?
Most customer-facing staff will speak conversational English, but don’t expect all staff to be able to communicate in English. In 4* and 5* hotels many staff will have good language skills and many people in Buenos Aires can speak some basic English. Try learning a few basic phrases in Spanish beforehand, to help you interact with your hosts.
-
How safe are the hotels in Buenos Aires?
You can expect the hotels to be safe. Having said that, there are pickpockets operating in the city, and sometimes they even try their hand in the public areas of hotels. Always be attentive to your bags and belongings and leave your valuables (passport, cash etc) in the room safe.
-
Do I need to pay a tourist tax and/or VAT?
All foreign visitors to Buenos Aires must pay a daily ‘tourist tax’ for their stay in the city, but are VAT-exempt for accommodation. We take these important factors into account in our pricing.
