PlanciusWhat was your most memorable moment?
The quiet---the beauty of the ice and land and glaciers. Luckily, we were around to see the new penguin chicks. We also camped on the ice/snow while there. Memorable.

Tell us about the wildlife
The Penguin chicks were hatching so it was more exciting. We were entertained by a pod of 6 Orca whales for @ 1/2 hour just off the side of the boat. So many things to watch and be enriched by.
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
I cannot imagine the trip without taking the zodiac excursions. We were able to get on land/ice 9 times. So fun.
Tell us about the expedition team
The expedition team did everything they could to assure our safety. While this was their great concern, we did not feel inhibited or held back. They were all knowledgeable and energetic about Antarctica. They each did presentations to us on varied subjects which made the trip that much more enjoyable.
Tell us about the Plancius
So glad it was a smaller ship. This allowed us to get into places that other ships might not. The meals were great--much better than hoped for. My only drawback for the ship was my bed was wedged behind a closet and next to the bulkhead. During the Drake crossing I had "anxiety" problems being wedged in there and had to sleep in my husband's bed and he slept in the lounge due to clausterphobia brought on by the bucking room and such close quarters. The staff kept things well cleaned and they did an amazing job.
Tell us about the Camping
So very very fun. So glad I did it. Much warmer than I thought. Perhaps I dressed much more than needed???
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Sign up for the camping--it is a once in a lifetime experience.
Something Else?
There does need to be a more equitable method or way of loading the zodiacs. We would be lined up and on 4 of the 5 days a "certain group" would not be in line but would be asked to come forward to load before everyone else. This caused some animosity of the 60 that were waiting in line to keep having the "certain group" who were not lined up waiting be able to cut in front of us. Consequently, when the 100 limit was reached on the land, the last 10 standing in line had to do zodiac excursions rather than go on land since the quota was reached by the "certain group of @40" going first and being filled in by those that had been patiently standing and waiting in line.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Swoop is wonderful. Aimee and John were such a big big help--always so helpful. As I mentioned, the website was also so helpful filled with information. I do wish there were an easier way to get the final payment to Swoop rather than having to go to the trouble of paying @ $75 --$90 USD to get it wired.
