We were on our way to Cuverville and ran into a large pod of Orcas and they got us all off the ship and we spent 3 hours in zodiacs surrounded by about 25 orcas and a humpback whale.

Hi, I have found the booking process very confusing with SWOOP. I cannot get a clear answer from Alicia about whether the insurance plan want to pick is actually going to be sufficient for Ocean Expeditions. And then the wire transfer instructions she sent me were different than what is under the payments section of my itinerary so my bank has delayed the transfer as suspicious. I am very concerned now about how legitimate my booking is.

Tell us about the expedition team
Pippa and George were incredible. Pippa was inspiring and extremely knowledgeable about marine life and everything else - there was no question you couldn’t ask her. She also was a fantastic expedition leader and we all respected and adored her. George’s lectures on geopolitics were fascinating and his organizational skills were apparent in how we all got to do all our planned activities even with many changes in plan! Marco was also superb and an entertaining presenter on geology and the Antarctic.
Tell us about the Plancius
The ship was amazing, the food was superb the staff was so incredibly friendly and called us all by name. The rooms were comfortable and always extremely clean the lounge area was perfect. The bridge was nearly always open and the captain was lovely. And Raquel the bartender was funny and remembered everyone’s drink - it honestly felt like a 5 star hotel. Because it was a smaller ship we got to land everywhere and really get to explore. I can speak highly enough about it.
Were Swoop right to recommend Oceanwide Expeditions?
Yes
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
We loved them. The advice swoop gave about clothing was ideal as it would get chilly if you were not layered up.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Yes! Smaller ships are better if you want to be active. It is go to know the rules of IATO about how many people can get off the ship to land. I wasn’t aware of this when we booked so I felt we lucked out.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Yes, I have a whole new understanding of how precious an environment untouched by man can be and how essential it is for us to protect it.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I think before we booked anything they should have asked us how much we wanted to get on and off the ship and how active we wanted to be. If we had gone with our original booking instead of base camp then I think we would have been disappointed.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Very - the webinar and information were extremely helpful. A packing list in addition to the pictures would be a nice addition.
