Spirit of EnderbyWhat was your most memorable moment?
Within a 24 hour period we visited one of the historic Antarctica Explorer's huts, visited a large Adelie penguin colony, and enjoyed champagne on ice, with an Emperor penguin, standing on the Ross Sea Ice pack.
Which of the following best describes your adventure?
Life changing
On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend or colleague?
3 out of 10
Tell us about the wildlife
Wildlife exceeded my expectations. The time of year and weather contributed greatly to the encounters we had. Favorite encounter, an Emperor Penguin on the ice pack.
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Enjoyed all zodiac excursions. The zodiac drivers were all very competent in the water. The ship's crew was very good at getting us into and out of the zodiacs. Most memorable cruise, the Duke of York Islands.
Tell us about the expedition team
All lecturers were excellent and extremely qualified.
Tell us about the Spirit of Enderby
Spirit of Enderby is an excellent ship providing a small group expedition to Antarctica. The Captain and owner of the company knew and understood weather patterns to provide us a safe passage across the Southern Ocean. Cabin was comfortable with plenty of storage. Food was excellent and plentiful. I would most definitely choose the ship’s operator and the Enderby again.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Hope for good weather. One can not expect to be able to land on the Antarctica Continent or the Subantarctic Islands when on an expedition. One can easily see the challenges from the weather, wind, and sea limiting the opportunity to launch a zodiac from the ship toward land. Therefore be prepared for time at sea.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Yes. We need to do as much as we can to maintain the wild, untouched beauty of Antarctica. Excessive tourism could become a problem.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
The team was very helpful on the selection of the trip I did. Major complaint was the late timing of getting necessary documents and information to me.
