Tell us about the expedition team
The team was amazing, they really made the trip what it was. The expedition leader was always able to have plans and backup plans based on the different possibilities of expected weather, ensuring we were able to make the many varieties of landings to make the trip as good as it could be. The rest of the team was also great: all were knowledgeable about different aspects of the continent/wildlife/etc, they are were all super personable and fun to chat with, and they were very adept at keeping us safe while allowing us to have fun.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Definitely bring clothes that can easily be layered, as there can be many times when you may need to be prepared for really cold weather but also ready to shed some layers as you warm up while on an excursion.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
The lectures from the expedition staff during the trip were very informative and helped give me much more context and background of both how we discovered Antarctica as well as the natural history of the continent.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
The help from Swoop was great! One minor thing that at least wasn't clear to me prior to the trip: from the info I got from Swoop, it seemed like the day after returning from Antarctica (when getting back to Punta Arenas) I thought there wasn't a hotel night included, so I booked my own accommodation. But after returning from Antarctica I did end up having a night in the hotel in Punta Arenas included.
