Akademik IoffeOverall, how was your trip?
The ice. Going on to land/ice twice a day though I would have liked loner and more time off he boat. Landscape stunning and the wildlife unusual. Most of the time pleasant but rather pushy and over excited when they were so, so desperate to take photos. That I do not know why Antarctic does not have a flag. They are not old enough to under stand the concept of a shared geographical area. I did not expect to find 30 young Chinese children on the boat, pushing and shoving on the stairs, along the corridors, jumping the queue in the restaurant and generally making a lot of noise. They were also noisy on land and I had hoped to find wonderful peace in Antarctica. I realise children are playful and lively but I did not expect to be on holiday with them and would not have booked this holiday had I known. So it did affect my enjoyment.
In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?
Even though I have visited north Norway in winter Antarctica was stupendously better. Yes.
Would you visit again?
Maybe
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Yes but I wish they had told me a third of the passengers would be young children. The route was good and we got off the boat 2 a day. The ship was most interesting especially as were allowed an the bridge and had a tour of the engine room. The 5th deck was recommended and as the 3rd and 4th deck had the children I was glad to be there. Good and provided useful advice on route and clothing. Told me the passenger composition
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
5 out of 10
How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?
Visiting bases and would have liked some on the peninsula. Walking round and spending quiet time alone. The icebergs were stunning and the wildlife was interesting especially the closeness of the penguins and whales. Turning off the RIB's engines and floating around the ice. The Great Wall greenhouse. Parallel parking the ship and stepping out on to the flat ice. Knowledgeable and helpful. Some went out of their way to be really helpful but a few large egos got in the way of the talks.
