Tell us about the expedition team

Each expedition team leader had an area of expertise and gladly shared their knowledge. I especially enjoyed Sergey's historical lectures and his commentary as he steered us around various bays on Zodiac tours. Robert's lecture describing his experiences setting up base camps at the South Pole was fascinating. Stephanie's lecture on Women in Antarctica provided a perspective that I think is often overlooked. All of the team members were extremely friendly and approachable as we moved about the ship. They were always happy to answer our questions or simply join us in enjoying the amazing views and wildlife encounters. Mario was an exceptional expedition leader. His positive attitude was contagious, and he adeptly managed the fine line between safety and adventure.

Tell us about the Sea Spirit

The Sea Spirit is a wonderful ship. Our cabin on Deck 5 was spacious and comfortable. It was easy to get around on the boat and we took advantage of the comfortable and extensive library quite often on sailing days. The food was excellent as there was always a wide variety of offerings for each meal and an amazing range of options throughout the whole trip.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Even though traveling to South Georgia and the Falkland Islands added to the length and expense of the trip, it was well worth it. You will not see wildlife and scenery like that found on these islands anywhere else in the world. You also need to be prepared for the sailing days. The teams provided many lectures, documentaries, tours, etc., to keep us busy, but one needs to be comfortable just chilling out during those days at sea.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It has made me interested in traveling north to experience the Arctic region!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I appreciated the prompt response to questions we had and the attention to detail. The team helped us navigate the many logistical details that helped make the trip a success.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I felt extremely well-prepared. I took the advice of the Swoop and Poseiden teams and felt like I packed exactly what I needed. The webinar preceding the trip not only added to the excitement about the trip, but made me feel more comfortable about the upcoming adventure.
