Tell us about the expedition team

These people are remarkable. Especially the senior teams members forced to navigate the COVID uncertainties while keeping the passengers well being and satisfaction as a top priority. Dr Bill and Maria were a soothing presence. When Maria tested positive, Mark stepped up and more than filled her shoes. Who knew what he had to put up with behind the scenes but his professionalism and maturity belied his young age. The dining staff and the chef could not have been more accommodating and so creatively managed the meals and service during our extra quarantine days in Ushuaia.

Tell us about the Seaventure

The cabin was fine. The ship needs to invest in a better inter-ship audio/video system. Even on COVID free voyages, some passengers will be forced to attend the lectures on the TV in the room which ended up being the bulk of our experience. However, we were barely able to hear the speakers and the video was limited. Swoop should advise all customers about one seating per meal.

Something Else?

Further to our previous comments, we really appreciated the Swoop neck gator but it would have been nice to know about it before we bought new ones at the store.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Clothing: a base layer, mid layer, down vest and a packable down jacket (Patagonia, ex.) or insulated jacket is perfect under the Polar Latitudes red parka. A base layer and snow pants perfect for most days; if very cold, have a mid layer bottom too. Ship tends to get warm. People generally do not dress for dinner but remain in their clothes from the day, especially since the dinner hour comes about an hour after reboarding the ship from zodiacs. Wakeup announcements at 7, breakfast at 7:30 and first call to zodiacs at 9.

Was there anything else Swoop could have done for you to help you prepare for your trip?

It would have been helpful for us to have Swoop help with all flight arrangements (like other companies are now offering), especially between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. Due to covid, Polar Latitudes arranged charter flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, and this was very helpful.
