Tell us about Zodiac excursions
At some landings the stops didn’t seem long enough, or the cruises for that matter when other times both felt excessive. I did enjoy them but some drivers didn’t seem comfortable in being drivers. They didn’t seem able to read the boat and show what was interesting to all. Or they would forget to turn the boat so everyone got a look at what was at their back
Tell us about the expedition team
I didn’t attend many of the lectures. Being forward in the boat it often made me nauseous. I attempted to follow a few of them in my cabin but would usually fall asleep due to motion sickness pills. I enjoyed talking to everyone, but Dan Brown seemed the most knowledgeable about his passion and could articulate well. I was extremely disappointed when we stopped at Port Lockroy as they told us our passports would be stamped as the stamp was on the ship, at least twice aboard the ship we were told our passports were being stamped as we spoke and when we received them prior to disembarking they had not been stamped. It’s minor I know, but we were lied to and I don’t appreciate that. I would have rather been told it wasn’t possible to have them stamped and deal with it. Several times my husband or I asked about heights of mountain ranges or glaciers and no one was able to tell us. The focus shouldn’t solely be on the penguins or seals in my opinion.
Tell us about the Seaventure
The Seaventure was a great little ship. At no time did I feel unsafe or worried. Something needs to be done in the dining room however. I still have bruises on my legs from getting in and out of the chairs at the tables. Also, when everyone congregates in the lounge for evening briefings it gets way too hot and we didn’t even have a full trip.
Tell us about the Camping
Unfortunately we were unable to camp due to weather concerns and it couldn’t be rescheduled due to the time constraints of getting to the circle. I don’t think our team really wanted to camp so it wasn’t a disappointment for them.
Tell us about Ushuaia
Absolutely loved the ARkur hotel. It was amazing. I had hoped for a water view room, but it didn’t happen. The food there was amazing.
Something Else?
Randy was not our favourite entertainer but he did the best he could. I get it’s an “expedition “ cruise, but maybe some trivia or karaoke or something to break up sea days other than lectures would be something to consider
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Cabin space is tight, do not over pack. I overpacked.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Get Danny back. He was an excellent expedition leader.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
After waiting 3 years for this trip it didn’t seem real that it was actually happening so I contained my excitement
