Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?
Yes
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Enjoyable and safe. When we saw the whales. Zach did an excellent job of keeping them moving and keeping us safe and getting us where we needed to go.
Tell us about the expedition team
They were so knowledgeable, so well educated and so willing to share their knowledge with all of us. There was never a time when your question was not answered. Russell did such an amazing job of helping the passengers and crew meld and get to know each other. Loved Stephie and Vicky's persentations and was completely in awe of Jonathan's live adventures and his knowledge of the region. Each expedition person brought such a wide breath of knowledge to the table which was greatly appreciated.
Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
Sylvia Earle can be very proud of her namesake. I felt safe on the vessel and appreciated that different woment were honoured on the different ship levels. I took the time to read about each of them and to look at all the photos throught the vessel. My cabin was excellent. I did however forget a few things in my cabin, which I noticed once I got home: A canon D70 battery, a USB stick, one white ankle sock and a pair of black gloves that fit into my ski mitts. Who would I contact regarding these? The food was awesome for being on a 21 day cuirse and not being able to restock. The chef did an excellent job providing a varied menu and vegan dishes. I loved the fact that every night they had on display what each of the dishes being serve looked like. The waite staff made sure that what you needed (hot water, Lemon) or what you wanted icecream with chocolate sauce was availble for the asking. Greg, Howard and Leo can be very proud of their staff and their expedition.
Tell us about the Kayaking
Well, yes! It was the best. I would highly recommend it. Eamon. along with Hodie, Tracy, Ivan and Martin accommodated our need to do both kayaking and stepping on the land for a short time so we didn't feel we were missing out. They kept us all safe and were very helpful in getting all of us in and out of the kayaks in all kinds of weather. I didn't realize how fortunate I was to be able to kayak until I watched the kayaking slide show put together by Ivan. I kayaked every time we had the opportunity to kayak. I was fortunate to have Steve a fellow kayaker and Martin help me get the neck gasket over my face and zip me up so i didn't take on water if I fell over board. I thank Julie Keast for being my kayaking partner.
Something Else?
I think i said it all : ) Thanks again suggessing this cruise and cruise company. Adelle
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
It was suggested that we bring walking sticks and dry bags, which took up valuable luggage space (my sticks were not compact and my dry bag was a 20 liter heavy plastic like material) and they were included. Had I known that we would receive a slide show and an expedition photo book I would have left my Canon D70 and lenses at home because I am not a super great photographer. Max the expedition photogragher took excellent pics.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
How in peril our world is and how short a time we have to turn things around, if we can even do that. Also how little recycling other areas in the world are doing. I was not familiar with the explorers associated with the Antarctic so that was inlightening.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Team was excellent, Swoop did an excellent job of preparing me and keeping me informed of that was going on. Some how I used the 2022 itenerary which I got off the my trip sight and booked my flights. Then later printed off the itinerary and got the 2023 dates and it was too late to change my flights so I had to stay an extra day in Ushuaia So getting that new itinerary up early would be helpful.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
