Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Loved all of them, even the worst ones. Kerry made me feel taken care of and made sure we were ready to go.

Everyone was great. Lectures (I went to most of them) were interesting and the humor that floated to the top was the best. Kerry was my favorite. Knowledgable, caring, on the job all of the time and took care of us. Greg was of course was a great person to meet and get to know a little. What an influence!

I loved the ship. I could have stayed for another round. Food was always good and varied - got to have Vegemite for the first time.

Something Else?

I am an amateur photographer and thought we were on a partly-photographic expedition. Not really. The on-board photographer was a very good photographer but didn't really engage us except on a superficial level. I have been on many photographer-led trips and the good ones were where the photographer was interested in teaching and guiding us to get better photos. Showing an interest in what we are shooting is usually a good indication of a good teacher - we got none of this. When the expedition photographer is interested in getting great photos to show when we get back is typical of the lack of engagement I'm talking about. I noticed that Kerry, a very good photographer, was not part of the photo staff was surprising. I have since looked at her collection and they are amazing. Being famous or well published is not much help - personal instruction is. Photography is a moment-by-moment sport, not a lecture. It has helped in other trips (Ethiopia/Omo Valley, Namibia, Venice, Joshua Tree Park, Antigua, Oaxaca, Iceland, Norway, etc) that we see what is to come and how to prepare for the split-second opportunities that will come our way. That said, I was impressed by the ships photographers shots and aspire to be better.
