Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
It truly did live up to our expectations!! The cabin was nicer than many hotel rooms, spacious, very comfortable, good storage for our belongings, loved the robes and slippers. We used the gym, sauna and hot tub. The food was top notch with many choices for everyone's appetites. Meats were cooked to perfection. Vegetables and fruit selections were amazing. The chef and his staff were SO accommodating, friendly and just after a few days knew us by name (even without name tags). We would absolutely recommend the Sylvia Earle.
Tell us about the expedition team
From the time we arrived in Ushuaia to leaving Punta Arenas, we felt welcomed and safe. The team was always smiling, fun and ready to answer questions that everyone had. We were kept informed everyday of what the plan was and who would be going where.
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Loved them ALL! The landings were fabulous. Every team member made sure each person was secure and safe. One day fog started rolling in and they had us leave the island early due to safety. The most memorable was our first landing and saw chinstrap penguins. The next was actually landing on Antartica.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Don't overpack, you can wash things out in your bathroom and hang on the towel racks or line in the shower or have laundry done (although not inexpensively).
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
We've never taken a 'cruise' aboard a big ship but this was perfect...120 passengers.
