Chuck's Trip Date:

11th Feb - 21st Feb 2023

What was your most memorable moment?

A very spiritual moment standing alone amongst thousands of penguins, seals, and nesting birds as I realized that because of man's efforts the many travesties of the past devastation are being (at least to some degree) reversed. We can make a difference, and this incredible world is worth it!

Tell us about the Snorkelling

Yes, it is a pain to get into those dry suits, and a bit of a shock slipping into zero degree water, but oh my goodness the rewards can be incredible. The expedition staff who led these were amazing, and I know that was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Very thankful for the slide show Liz did for us! Priceless.

Tell us about the expedition team

I really hate to draw out any of the expedition staff, as they were all first rate, and Daniel led the pack incredibly well. My favorite lecturer was John, and not just for the lectures, but moreover for his comments in the field. He helped me better understand and appreciate what I was seeing in a very informative but not snobby way. He was not afraid to say he did not know the answer, and that was refreshing. He had a depth of knowledge and experience that made him genuine.

Tell us about the Greg Mortimer

My wife was very pleased with the cabin, and particularly the toilet was a welcome luxury compared to other ships we had been on. The cabin was well situated and made our sunset cruising absolutely amazing with full patio window viewing. The ship is perfectly built for purpose, and smaller than others, which makes it nimble and ready to adjust to weather conditions incredibly quickly.

Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?

Yes

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

1. Plan early, you'll be glad you did. 2. Take advantage of every opportunity you have. This is not your everyday experience. 3. Come ready to learn, and drink it all in. The more you study in advance, the more you will appreciate the trip.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Yes, the people that are saying we cannot do anything about global warming are wrong. We each can and should do all we can.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

I don't think I understand well enough to make a recommendation. You seemed to be outside of the Aurora group instead of a part of it. How can you do a better job of getting inside?

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

Very much so.
