Overall, how was your trip?

Loved the trip. Weather was good the first four days after arrival. We personally loved Iceberg Alley. Wildlife was great. A big surprise was that 65% of the travelers were a French group. Although they were often separated from the English speaking group with their own interpreters in the sessions where both languages had to be presented it became a problem because the French passengers continually talked through the English speaking portion and we needed to listen to the French. I was under the impression that if the trip was advertised as English speaking that is all it would be. It did not take long before we realized that the French group did not feel they had to obey staff instructions - particularly staying behind certain boundaries while waiting for zodiacs on shore, waiting in lines for eating, stairs, and boarding zodiacs from ship, etc. Some of the guides had difficulties with the group getting too close to penguins and not staying within the red poles while walking. Even boarding the buses to the airport presented problems with the drivers because of how the French guides wanted them to board, etc. and had to spend their time trying to sort things out. It was a distraction that did not have to happen. The ship operator's Staff and guides were top notch. Very calm, capable and knowledgeable.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

Lived up to our expectations.

Would you visit again?

No

How was the service that Swoop provided?

We were very pleased with SWOOP. We had cancelled an already booked trip because the agent was virtually nonresponsive and were thrilled with the quick and helpful responses we received from you. The cabin and voyage recommended were perfect for us. We particularly liked the three choices you gave us which helped us immensely in making our choice. We would highly recommend you. We will be contacting the ship's operator regarding having a travel group with us and don't know if there would ever be a reason we should have known this would be happening.

You chose a/an Onto the Antarctic Ice experience. How was that experience?

Best choice for us. would recommend it unless you do not want to get off a ship.

If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?

We did our own air and hotel arrangements but ran them by you before booking All worked out well. Our hotel was great. Travel documents were complete and arrived as expectged.

How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?

All onshore experiences were great with the exception of one afternoon when only three zodiacs would be cruising. Although there were approximately 10 of us waiting for the first Zodiac several people did not get to go because the French group simply disobeyed instructions even though repeatedly told to go back. May have been better handled by the guide in that situation but he could not be in two places at once. Icebergs and wildlife were perfect.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

We were able to go for the 14 days (including travel time) without checking luggage. Had 3 items laundered on ship. Used two compression bags (one for my coat and one for my pillow). It took a lot of time but in the end we had more than we needed and for the long flights, etc. it was great not to stand in the luggage line and worry about luggage not being delivered.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

Thank you for everything. Our sixth continent.
