Tell us about Zodiac excursions
The zodiac excursions were amazing! I felt very safe at all times & appreciated the instructions on how to enter & leave the zodiac plus the help from staff. Pleneau Bay and Edinburgh Hill were my 2 favorites.
Tell us about the expedition team
All were very friendly, very approachable & knowledgeable. They all were able to answer my questions. Michael the ornithologist was a great guide on zodiac excursions & I enjoyed his lectures. He’s also gluten free, like me.
Tell us about the Magellan Explorer
The ship could not have been better! The cabin was large & I loved the heated bathroom floor & towel warmer. The cabin steward was very personable & efficient. The food was wonderful! I have an allergy to wheat so I’m gluten free and everyone was very accommodating to my special dietary needs. I would absolutely choose this ship again & have recommended it to many already.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Choose Antarctica 21 & the Magellan Explorer, for sure! Pay attention to what clothing is recommended & take it all. I bought collapsible ski poles but never needed them since they were available from the ship. I would advise people not to bother getting them. I also did not find the need for goggles; sunglasses worked very well.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I was concerned about climate change before I went to Antarctica but I’m even more concerned about it now. After seeing all the ice & imagining what would happen if it all melted, we must get a better handle on global warming. The massive size of everything also reminded me how small we humans are compared to nature.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
No need to suggest bringing your own ski poles since they’re provided. Nothing but positive feedback for the entire team. Everyone was awesome!!

I felt very well prepared for the trip because you did such a good job informing me what to bring & what to expect. I got more excited for the trip every time I heard or saw something from you. The webinar & the meeting at Explorers’ House were invaluable! Thank you for giving us so much information which allowed us to have such a great experience!!
