Lora & Mitchell's Trip:

Fly & Cruise The Antarctic Circle

Lora & Mitchell's Trip Date:

10th Jan - 26th Jan 2018

Overall, how was your trip?

Highlight: Lemaire Channel with some of the staff members. It was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. For instance the glaciers pressed up against the mountainous areas on either side of the ship. My senses were heightened during this experience. I also enjoyed the polar plunge at the Antarctic circle. I met the most incredible people from my neighbors on the 4th floor to some of the staff members. I enjoyed talking about polar exploration with staff member Sam and David the expedition leader. I made a new friend with one of the passengers who lives in Malaysia! -- We plan to visit one day.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

Beyond my expectations and absolutely breathtaking!

Would you visit again?

Yes

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Yes pleased. More than satisfied it was perfect!! YES perfect ship and cabin Swoop was great-- also responded back to my questions whether they were about laundry, finances or Shackleton. No.

How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?

You chose a/an Fly & Cruise The Antarctic Circle experience. How was that experience?

Beyond my expectations. Yes. I would recommend the cruise first and then the flight, in case the flight is delayed. You don't want to miss this experience. Plus, I think it is better to go through the Drake Passage first and get that out of the way to enjoy the rest of the voyage. Suggestions: Prepping us for stops in Argentina and less time in the Falklands. I would have liked at least another hour in Stanley.

If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?

Yes. Just emphasize stops for future travelers. Next time we might book a nonstop flight instead from Santiago to Punta Arenas, but it worked out. Received all travel documents.

How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?

Highlights: Seeing the Humpback whale cross in front of our zodiac was awesome!!! Also, time spent viewing leopard seals and getting plenty of pictures. Wildlife was on point all around us. Icebergs especially the #10 icebergs were glorious! staff was safe, fun and informative.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Try to book non-stop flights. Be smart and give yourself a day extra in Punta Arenas before and afteer your trip like we did..less stress. Look into getting crab eater gloves..seriously I borrowed some from a staff member. Kept my hands warm and provided dexterity.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

I sent in my application to work for the ship's operator as a contractor I loved it so much!! This trip only fueled my passion in polar exploration. Looking forward to future trips. I absolutely loved the Ioffe, the staff and the beauty of Antarctica.
