Standing on continental Antarctica! Everyone was so excited, and we were all celebrating with snow angels and snowball fights. It was such a fun memory!

Tell us about the Hondius

I loved Hondius and am already looking into another trip on this ship specifically! The quad cabin still had plenty of storage. The observation lounge was where I spent most of my time, hanging out with friends I had made or just sipping on a coffee and taking in the views. The food on board was delicious, too!

Were Swoop right to recommend Oceanwide Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

The zodiac excursions were my favorite part of the trip! It provided an opportunity to get closer to the animals and icebergs. Nothing beats seeing humpback whales pop up right next to you :)

Tell us about the expedition team

The expedition team was incredible! They were well-versed in all things Antarctica. Most of them were incredibly friendly and personable. Marcelo and Ross were a couple who specifically stood out. They were intentional about having conversations with guests, and had a very welcoming spirit. The kitchen/dining room staff were also all amazing. They made a point to remember my name and were some of the kindest people on board. They were simply the best!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

It’s not as daunting as it seems! Antarctica is raw and beautiful, and every second of planning was worth it x100. I would go again in a heartbeat. My only advice is to make sure you have the correct waterproof gear. Just because you have a waterproof jacket or pants doesn’t mean it lives up to arctic standards. I just wish I had asked a few more questions about my gear to confirm I had all I needed. Also, bring water shoes in case you polar plunge from shore!

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I can’t pinpoint what, but it has definitely changed a deep part of me. I thought this would be a once-and-done trip, but I truly fell in love with Antarctica. I don’t think any other place will satisfy after this. I would give anything to go back again.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Swoop was incredible!! Nardus, Malva, and Ben were so personable and helpful. The only thing I can think of that would’ve been a little more helpful on the front end would be clarification on the waterproof outer layers. I had been told that ski gear was fine, but was then told on the ship that my jacket wasn’t up to Antarctica standards. Luckily my friend had an extra that I borrowed. But if that hadn’t happened, I potentially wouldn’t have been allowed off the ship for on-shore excursions.

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I felt as prepared as I could be! It seemed daunting at first, since I had never done a trip like this before. But Swoop made everything so clear and helped me feel incredibly prepared. I was so excited!!
