What was your most memorable moment?

Too many memorable moments to choose from! Humpback whales, penguins, leopard seals, and the polar plunge are highlights, but the landscape itself was magnificent. Waking up every day to new natural marvels was magical. And the helicopter ride was amazing!

Were Swoop right to recommend Quark Expeditions?

Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Excursions were marvellous. Opportunities to experience the landscape and wildlife up close were unforgettable. Expedition leaders were knowledgeable, experienced, and full of great stories and suggestions for making the most of our time on the zodiac and on land.

Tell us about the expedition team

Staff were absolutely wonderful. Knowledgeable, friendly, responsive to questions and quick to share stories and anecdotes to enhance every trip. We especially enjoyed Fabric, the ornithologist (and penguin expert), and Dave Merron, the photographer, but Ross the historian, Yvonne the glaciologist, Simon the helicopter pilot, and Marla the biologist were equally wonderful. Jake Morrison, the expedition leader, was fantastic - always calm and cool but keeping things running beautifully. All staff had great senses of humour which we also really enjoyed.

Tell us about the Ultramarine

Accommodations, food, layout and amenities - including access to ready room and zodiacs - on the Ultramarine were exceptional. The fact that the ship was purpose-built to accommodate zodiacs and kayak/paddleboard launches as well as helicopter rides really makes it the standard for all other vessels to aspire to. Staff as well were outstanding - housekeeping kept our room immaculate and even decorated my room and baked me a cake for my birthday! Would absolutely choose this ship again and recommend it to others.

Tell us about the Paddle Boarding

John enjoyed the paddle boarding - he felt safe and secure with his fellow paddlers and team leaders and had the experience of a lifetime out on the arctic waters.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

We thoroughly enjoyed our expedition and would recommend the Antarctic Explorer in Style for the accommodations and experiences offered. We also felt the length of time was perfect for us to experience the variety of the arctic peninsula and wildlife, and the 4 days' Drake Passage crossing (2 and from the peninsula) were great for getting to know the ship, the crew, and learning about the history of the area.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

This is only the second cruise we've taken (first was to the Galapagos in 2018) and once again we were astounded by the beauty of the world's most remote locations and by the knowledge and experience to be gained from travelling with experienced and engaging experts, such as the ones on the Ultramarine.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
