Tell us about Zodiac excursions
The most memorable was seeing humpback whales and the expedition crew allowed us to stay on the water a bit longer than planned. I felt totally safe, no matter who was the expedition leader of the zodiac.
Tell us about the expedition team
There were many staff who were knowledgeable and passionate about animals, science or being on the water. Notable were Albert (science), Hans (whales), Megan (Cape Horn sailing exp). Flo was an exceptional expedition leader, always upbeat and excited about Antarctica and the stops we were making.
Tell us about the Sylvia Earle
Cabin was great! Lots of room, comfortable bed and lots of hot water in the shower. Food was great, was never hungry. Between the coffee room with snacks and meals, there was always something to munch on. I would definitely choose this ship again.
Tell us about the Snow shoeing & Hiking
A bit difficult in the beginning since I had no experience but got the hang of it. The muck boots are irritating to the front part of the shin, would recommend moleskin or band aids to add padding.
Tell us about Ushuaia
A port town with some great places to eat. There are things to see if you are staying more than the pre cruise night. Just take note of the currency exchange rate.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Go with an open mind and don’t plan on checking off boxes on a list. Weather dictates what you can do and see. Enjoy the experience and it’s not necessary to photograph every moment.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Yes. The earth I diverse and resilient. Antarctica can be harsh but it’s also awesome. Human extinction is more likely than the earth ending as a result of climate change.
