What was your most memorable moment?

My son winning the wildlife photo contest. He's 16 and wants to be a professional photographer - this was an amazing confidence boost and he will never forget it.

Tell us about the wildlife

Exceeded my expectations.

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

These were one of my favorite parts of the trip. Being able to get close to the whales and seals was amazing.

Tell us about the expedition team

Vide because he was extremely entertaining, very knowledgeable, and very nice to talk with. Karin was also a favorite because she was also so happy to be there but unless we would have asked, we never would have known it was her first visit. We really enjoyed her lecture on the Swedish Antarctic Expedition.

Tell us about {area.title}

Camping on the ice was amazing although I do wish there had been some sort of activity rather than just get there, go straight to bed, wake up and go straight back to the ship. The experience was one that I'm thrilled to say I've done but I don't think I would need to do it a second time. The whale watching far exceeded my expectations. Also, the fact that the captain stopped the ship and made such an effort to help us see killer whales was incredible.

Something Else?

I really appreciated being able to just copy the videos and photos that were created off of the computers on the boat. Many companies would offer the video and photos for a large fee at the end of the trip and I REALLY appreciated not being asked to spend more money. It definitely made it felt like our expedition was about the journey and the experience and not to make a fat profit thinking of every way to make more money off of the passengers. That was awesome!

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Bring your own playing cards and favorite games.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

It has made me much more aware of the environment (plastic use, etc.).
