On Christmas Eve, the captain took the ship south into sea ice for a few hours. That was as far south as we ever went. Just when I thought I had seen Antarctica, the new scenary blew me away.
In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?
It was magnificent.

It was great. Do it.
If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?
I arranged everything myself but Swoop was great double checking. They even warned me about a strike in Buenos Aires, which didn't affect me fortunately.
How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?
The staff was professional. They marked clear boundaries so we knew where NOT to go.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Seeing so many glaciers and icebergs, I hope they don't melt anytime soon. Rising sea level will be a disaster.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
One thing that was not obvious was that everything is weather dependent. This basecamp gave everyone 3 special activities (camping, kayaking and mountaineering) and regular landings. Since everyone got the same 3 activities, it was just a rotation. If your scheduled spot was canceled, there was little chance of makeup. I was fortunate to only miss mountaineering. You need to manage expectations. Other cruises operate differently. You can pay a higher price to secure kayaking for yourself for the entire trip. That way, you get more chances. Something to think about.
