Yes

Tell us about Zodiac excursions

Most memorable was taking the zodiac through the chunks of ice and seeing humpback whales in the distance

Tell us about the expedition team

Expedition team were all from varied places and backgrounds which was good. I think expected more lectures about the wildlife. Several were overly scientific for the audience. Titanic lecture was most memorable (given by a passenger)

Tell us about the SH Diana

Cabin was great with an incredible amount of storage. However, balcony door was very hard to open. One time I stepped out to take a photo and tried closing the door part way, only to have the motion of the waves force the door closed. Couldn’t get back in!!! Thank God I leaned over the rail/divider and the person in the next cabin saw me and got housekeeper to get me back inside. Could have been tragic, especially since I was traveling alone. I told 2 front desk workers and the doctor, but didn’t get the impression that anything would change. Some of the food was very overcooked and breakfast was essentially the same every day. Think I’d try a different company in the future.

Something Else?

Having to leave your cabin at 8 am, and being taken to the airport at 9:45 for a 2:20 pm flight was a very disappointing end to an overall incredible trip.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

I was not clear that we would be given a warm and waterproof jacket plus a large dry bag. Also, that trekking poles were available. It would have been helpful to have clearly understood that before leaving.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

Very sad that avian flu reached an isolated area that far away!! Very happy to see ongoing research and the cooperation of different countries in maintaining this pristine and incredible environment!

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?

Please give Carola my thanks

How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?

I didn’t think about all the hiking that would be involved. Weather was warmer than expected but that was a good thing!
