Tell us about the Ocean Nova
I'd would have preferred a cabin of my own, but my roommate, Wolfgang from Germany, was respectful...making it tolerable. The variety of choices in the dining room were off the charts! I'm one that watches my diet...so I had a rough tough being disciplined!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Planning early on...scheduling the trip, as I did, 8 months ahead, paid off. I chunked reading through the materials/policies/expectations during that time, which prepared me well. Even though I lost connectivity during a hurricane which fortunately was recorded and I played back a week later...participating in the Webinar reiterated/emphasized the expectations that were already well written/stated in the portal.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
No doubt...participating/experiencing in the "geography" moment of being there gave me a better insight, a better historical sense, and has increase my curiosity to learn more about the continent.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
The team is incredibly well-versed...and the academic backgrounds are impressive. One critique---the guide that is the lead for snowshoeing, while as said incredibly bright, may consider reading his group(s) when trekking. He tends to have high expectations for those FOLLOWING him and exhausts a good number of folks. This could be the reason that he had no one participate in the following outing.
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Extremely well prepared...though learned the waterproof pants retained heat more so than I expected...and found that I was drenched with too many layers.
