Tell us about Zodiac excursions
The zodiac cruises were professionally run and the safety of the guests was paramount. It was nice getting closer to the ocean than we were on the ship
Tell us about the expedition team
The whole of the expedition team were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Learning about the different penguins and birds and whales was very interesting. I do feel that different perspectives weren’t encouraged and what was said by the guides was deemed as ‘gospel’
Tell us about the Ultramarine
The ship was a great size for the number of guests onboard. I am unsure why a fitness gym is located directly above cabins especially when those using the gym are using their own devices for entertainment rather than looking at the view. It took 2wks to get the hotel staff to do something about the gym being used from 6am and waking me up. I didn’t book the cabin I was given and was extremely disappointed with the amount of noise I encountered on a daily basis. I would think twice about using the same ship. It also appeared to be that although smoking was only supposed to be in one place, I was constantly bothered by the smoke, both in my cabin and whilst walking around on deck 5. My only allergy is bell pepper and I didn’t realise that once you have an allergy, all allergy meals are the same so you don’t get seasoning, sauce etc and that makes for bland meals. The chefs were good at making special requests though and for that, I give thanks.
Were Swoop right to recommend Quark Expeditions?

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Ask more questions about how often the helicopters are used. Don’t book your trip thinking that you get some decent time on a helicopter. Ask what the point is of crossing the circle, apart from getting a badge and a glass of fizzy drink. Ensure you are comfortable being on a ship for 3wks because you will spend the majority of your time aboard and not on land. I would recommend people include Falkland Islands and South Georgia in their itinerary as these were great places to visit.

Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Tell the clients more about the likelihood of the itinerary changing due to weather conditions. Be honest about the real possibilities of ports not being able to be visited
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
I felt very prepared and was excited.
