Akademik IoffeOverall, how was your trip?
We reached both Stromness, Grytviken and Elephant Island and even landed at Cape Wild. Truly in the footsteps of Shackleton. Amazing wildlife everywhere. Glaciers and icebergs on the peninsula are just majestic and something to see.
In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?
Something you have to see for yourself. It really cannot be described.
Would you visit again?
Maybe
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Swoop provided a superb service to us and gave good advice on planning and especially helped out when the original trip was cancelled.
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
8 out of 10
You chose a/an Voyage South Georgia, Falklands & Antarctica experience. How was that experience?
In terms of content, the trip lived up to expectations and we got to visit and see all the places we had wanted. But with 145 guests, it felt a bit crowded at time. The operator was new to the ship and the guide team was somewhat disorganised, especially in the beginning. Several shorelandings were short and the activities somewhat restricted.
If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?
All arranged by ourself
How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?
Too crowded. Not enough zodiacs and crew. Some landings were very restricted as to what you could do and where you could go. We would have expected more excursions involving hiking over the ice and such. Too much focus on birds. Staff was great individuals but had to come together as a team. Many new staff who was working together for the first time.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Go for smaller ships with max 80-90 guests or even smaller numbers if possible.
