What was your most memorable moment?
Near the end of the cruise we sailed into a little bay in the Antarctic Sound...there were mountains, ice bergs in the bay, penguins, whales in the distance, rolling hills, sun and clouds and so very many shades of blue and white on the ice. In short it was the single perfect moment with all the elements that we were enjoying coming together in one spot. And we were able to sit in the snow for the first time and we took some awesome pics there. It was what I call a perfect moment.

Tell us about the expedition team
Daniel, team leader, did an exceptional job of keeping people informed and comfortable with the decisions made. He also has a pleasant voice for first thing in, what at times were very early mornings, to speak to us over the PA system. The whole team were knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming and accommodating. They worked to their utmost to get us on excursions as often as possible and at times we were amazed how quickly they could get us deployed. In fact the day we entered Antarctica proper after crossing the Drake, we had dinner and suddenly Daniel announced that they were going to get us on land that very evening! We were amazed they would try because it was later in the afternoon/evening and I didn't think they could get the ship on shore that quickly. Sure enough the ship's crew, the excellent workers behind the scenes that make EVERYTHING happen, had boats lowered and we were lucky enough to be in the first boat out so we had almost an hour on land the very first night. We were greeted by 4000 lbs elephant seal 'teenagers', penguins and birds. And we had an almost surreal feeling of wow, we actually made it here...and for my wife it was a step onto land that ended an odyssey to touch all 7 continents! We had too many great moments with the expedition crew to mention but suffice it to write that they were fantastic.
Were Swoop right to recommend Aurora Expeditions?
Yes
Tell us about the Greg Mortimer
The perfect ship, I think, for its thoughtful design, amenities and the little extras that made the trip comfortable (like heated bathroom floors that can be adjusted to dry our gloves) to absolutely enjoyable (like the observation deck on the top floor with glass 220 degrees) and bar right there for late evening imbibing). LOVED it!
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Bring along an over the door foldup plastic shoe holder to put all the small things you bring like your gloves, lip balm, playing cards, vitamin/medication bottles, water bottle, and all those little things that take up space on your shelf and that fall in rough seas.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Not changed, but reinforced how precious our planet is and how we need to respect it.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
I think all team members should be sent to Antarctica and experience what they talk about and try to sell. Alexandra and Maddison should be at the top of that list ; ) But seriously they should truly understand by experiencing it what they are recommending...whether it is a resto in Ushuaia or what it's like to get in and out of a zodiac.
