Tell us about Zodiac excursions
Excellent. Safety first. Useful & enthusiastic guides, responsive to requests.
Tell us about the expedition team
Excellent Expedition Leader All guides enthusiastic with much expertise amongst them Particularly pleased to have had the opportunity to see Shackleton exped sites: falls near Stromness, Grytviken & especially the rare access to Point Wild on Elephant Island.
Tell us about the Hondius
Excellent. Not pretentious or complicated. Good facilities (a simple running/rowing/cross-trainer exercise space would have been useful for a 3 week trip). The ship’s crew were very good & hospitable. The open bridge was a great idea. The Captain’s willingness to inspect the A23 iceberg & poke our nose into the Weddell Sea was much appreciated. I was also grateful for the opportunity to chat through our mutual interest in each others commands: maritime v aviation.
Something Else?
Thank you
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
Go small ships. Try ‘Hondius’ due its appropriate design, space & accommodation
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Not overall but it achieved my aim of seeing, smelling & hearing the land. I can now place things when the region & locations are discussed. Builds perspective & knowledge.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Very good pre departure info & assistance The website is confusing in so far as there seem to be too many pages accessible from different points. The homepage should always be the starting point (mind you, if it hadn’t been for me getting lost looking for something, I wouldn’t have spotted the P.Arenas-Cape Horn-Ushuaia cruise which fitted in like a hand to glove. And it gave me the opportunity to stand on Cape Horn, another place I’d always wanted to see let alone access).
How prepared and excited for Antarctica did you feel?
Completely
