Akademik IoffeOverall, how was your trip?
Very luxurious cruise, fantastic exploration team that provided though information, lectures, trips on zodiacs and large "citizen scientist" programs. Icebergs and all wildlife was observed close up and the whenever anyone saw more animals, it was announced over the PA system so everyone could see them. It included some fun events like a photo contest, charity auction, and "get to know your team" game.
In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?
Antarctica was spectacular and one of the greatest things about this cruise was they we landed in Antarctica twice during every day we were there.
Would you visit again?
No
How was the service that Swoop provided?
Swoop did an excellent job when we were notified our long planned cruise was suddenly cancelled only 5 weeks out from our departure dates. When an opening came up for a cruise similar to our original plan became available, Swoop put an immediate hold on it for us and assisted us in making all the new arrangements.
How likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend?
10 out of 10
You chose a/an Fly & Cruise The Antarctic Circle experience. How was that experience?
Our Fly and Cruise was suddenly cancelled and so we went on the Herbidean Sky where we crossed the Drake Passage both ways and didn't fly. I would have preferred our original choice since it included the Falklands, Elephant Island and the Antarctic Circle, but the cruise we ended up on was excellent for what it included (though I was not able to camp as I was expecting to do on our original cruise).
If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?
Accommodations were great and all the information we needed in getting out short notice changes made for the new cruise when our original cruise was suddenly cancelled were received quickly.
How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?
The number and quality of our landings on the continent and the Shetland Islands were superior in every way. The staff was excellent and the weather permitted us to land twice a day for most days we were there.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
I had studied quite a bit before going and so although the trip lived up to every hope and expectation I had, I can't say it changed my perspective in a particular way.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
No.
Is there anything you would recommend we change to make trips like yours more environmentally sustainable?
The ship did everything they could to defend the environment --no plastic bottles, desalination on board, garbage disposal excellent etc.
