Overall, how was your trip?

The spectacular day with the whales dancing for us all. What a show! I love the glaciers, the total quietness and most of all, the feeling that we as human sapiens are simply a dot in this world when you are surrounded by the white centuries-old glaciers. The ship operator's staff was really excellent. I love how the whole trip was so well organized, and the staff of the vessel Resolute was undeniably very friendly. My most magical moment was the sunset whilst laying in the sleeping bag camping on the glaciers. An epic sight of the magnificent sunset in the South.

In one sentence, what did you think of Antarctica? Did it live up to your expectations?

It is a wonderful place, where the silence gives you the serenity within one's soul. LOVE IT. And the days of sunshine made the journey a journey of life.

Would you visit again?

Yes

How was the service that Swoop provided?

Ok, the team of experts was really there to share so many beautiful information. Exceptionally, however, was Katty who is a grand storyteller. Keep her around, please. David and Cobra were really great when in sharing information. I cannot mention one by one, but they all were working in very good team-work. I am blessed to get to know David's compassion for Antarctica. I was more than satisfied with the cabin at Resolute, and the staff taking care of the rooms was very friendly. In the future, maybe there should be options in terms of daily programs that people can attend to whilst on the ship. There should be more films provided for understanding Antarctica, and once a day gathering of all participants at the end of the day will be enough.

You chose a/an Discovering the Antarctic Peninsula experience. How was that experience?

(1) To be honest, after the aborted trip from Punta Arenas last year, this trip was beyond my expectation, in terms of the vessel and the services provided by the staff. (2) The best choice made, and to be with some good friends made it even more worth every moment. (3) Yes, many are envious of the pictures I took, and in fact, are asking how to experience the same trip. (4) Provide choices for on the board programs people may want to attend.

If Swoop arranged some of your travel before/after your voyage. How did we do?

(1) I have to thank Amee who made it possible to obtain visa and make the necessary bookings for prior and after the trip. (2) The accommodation at Arakur was superb. Thank you very much. (3) Yes, documents were helpful facing the Argentian Visa Consular. (4) Keep early contact with Swoop and be honest and clear what assistance they need to get all the arrangements. Swoop is very helpful.

How were your experiences on the zodiac excursions and shore landings?

(1) the champing was the most memorable event, and the experience that it was ok to sleep on the glaciers was great. (2) I enjoyed the zodiac cruise particularly the whale show and the ability of the staff to bring us close to the whales. (3) the wildlife was exceptionally breath-taking. Watching closely how the penguins interacts were just wonderful. (4) compared to the Arctic trip with Donnawood, the icebergs were okay. (5) the staff was excellent, all of them were professional and helpful, yet, tended on making the trip safe. It is difficult to handle more than 100 people on the shore, and they were good at it.

Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?

I have always been a proponent of environmental issues since the 1980's having worked for the Ministry of Population and Environment. I am keen to collaborate to create better awareness of climate change but most important for me that government policies can integrate this climate issue. By taking pictures, as they say, a picture is more than a thousand words, I hope to use them in many lectures I usually have to give at the university. I love the combination of holiday and learning from the experts.

Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?

Have an open mind, and expect changes of program and plan as the weather there changes fast. Be prepared for new experiences.

Is there anything you would recommend we change to make trips like yours more environmentally sustainable?

Less use of plastics and paper towel. I think the use of towels in the washrooms are commendable. I like the idea that nothing can be left on the glaciers and during the land trip.

Anything else? Tell us anything you’d like to share that we forgot to ask! It’s ok to leave this empty too :-)

I wanted to change the picture and cannot, as I sent you of the penguins rather than of me. How can I send you my picture?
