HondiusWhat was your most memorable moment?
There were very many. However the Humpback Whale playing among the Zodiacs on our last excursion was unbelievable. It literally came alongside and under our Zodiac several times.
Which of the following best describes your adventure?
Life changing
On a scale of 0 to 10, how likely is it that you would recommend Swoop to a friend or colleague?
10 out of 10
Tell us about the wildlife
The wildlife was incredible from the Albatrosses, Penguins, Seals, Whales etc. There were many photo opportunities and more importantly the expedition team lead by Adam wwas exceptional.
Tell us about Zodiac excursions
They simply became more memorable from trip to trip. The expedition team were incredibly competent in handling the Zodiacs, providing photo opportunities and a lot of information.
Tell us about the expedition team
One word "exceptional". Well led by Adam and very ably assisted by Sara. The mix of knowledge and skills and support they provided was way beyond my expectations.
Tell us about the Hondius
A superb ship. Great hotel staff, excellent food and nice cabins.
Something Else?
My only disappointment was that clearly the ship was not full and started to offer significantly reduced fares and Swoop did not contact us to negotiate some benefit. Another couple on the cruise were upgraded from deck 3 to deck 4 for no extra cost. Because we had booked via Swoop we were not monitoring the situation.
Do you have any tips or advice for other people planning a trip to Antarctica?
The ship is not kept as warm inside as is made out in the literature. This is not a bad thing as it reduces the temperature difference between outside and inside. You also do not get too hot whilst preparing to go outside. One needs casual dress for inside that includes jeans and a light jersey or jacket.
Has your experience changed your perspective in any way?
Yes, even more conscious of the impact of climate change and the need to keep places like Antarctica pristine.
Do you have any recommendations for Swoop, or feedback about the team?
Please see my comment about the upgrade on the previous page. My only other comment when I requested costs from the person handling flight bookings, the figures she sent me were far higher that those that I was able to obtain on-line in South Africa.
