Gerlache Strait

Where is it?

Antarctic Peninsula, between Anvers Island and the Danco Coast.

About the Gerlache Strait

A famous body of water in the Antarctic Peninsula, The Gerlache Strait is a must see for many people visiting this part of Antarctica on board an Antarctic Cruise, due to its spiky blue icebergs, humpback whale spotting, snow and mountains. It is usually visited en route to the beautiful, glacier-dominated Neko Harbour or the Lemaire Channel (nicknamed Kodak Alley for its photogenic icebergs), where ships cross the Antarctic Circle at 66 degress.

The Gerlache Strait is named after the Belgian Adrien de Gerlache, who explored the Strait in 1898.
