So many, but the most memorable was the humpback whale that came to our boat as we were getting ready to leave the Antarctic peninsula. The whale spent nearly 20 minutes entertaining the boat, and checking us out, not an inhibition in the world. We waved excitedly as it turned and fluked a final goodbye.

The trip to Antarctic allowed me to see the part of the world that is far far away from us. And the trip also allowed me to think the environmental connections of our life to that part of the world.

South Georgia would rank as the highlight insofar as the scenery and the wildlife were both off the scale. The expedition team were excellent, both in terms of the varied and informative lectures, and their professionalism conducting the excursions. The 'Island Sky' staff were first-rate as well, from the ship's officers getting us into sheltered inlets, to the superb catering, and the tireless deck hands and hotel workers. Biggest surprise: Drake Lake! Magic moment: Being 'inspected' by a fur seal pup.

The totality of the experience, not one specific event. The land and zodiac excursions on Antarctica and South Georgia were all great, hard to pick one out.

It was very humbling to be this small human being on the expanse of land, knowing most people will never see it.

Meeting a colony of 15 thousand penguins on our first day in South Georgia. Stepping on the Antarctic continent for the first time. Getting up close and personal with so many humpback whales.

There were so many moments, but if I had to choose one, having the humpback whales right next to our boat in the zodiacs and on the ship.

It was fantastic - South Georgia was such a special place for wildlife and the peninsula was spectacular. Too many magical moments to mention, but being surrounded by 150-200 humpback whales was one of the highlights.

On our final day in Antarctica at Fournier Bay, we were kayaking & were surrounded by humpback whales breaching & flapping their fins & towering icebergs, rolling & calving. It was sensory overload. We will remember that for ever!

Both South Georgia and the Antarctic rate equally but meeting the wildlife was incredible

Excellent. Out of this world landscape and wildlife more abundant than anyone can expect. Nearly everyone we met were very nice and we did develop a few new close friendships. However, as always, there were a few annoying people ("the front row people") and the "birder" group. No real surprises, but the serenity of Cierva Cove was magical.
