When you're in Antarctica, keep a daily journal of what you see each day and how it made you feel. And remember to take time to appreciate what you're experiencing through your own eyes rather than your phone or camera lens. Photos and videos don't do Antarctica justice!

My top 5 Antarctic experiences

  1. Waking up at 4am and spotting two humpback whales lunge-feeding out the window. I watched them for two mesmerising hours under the morning sun
  2. Paddling through slushy brash ice, the noise of the chunks hitting the kayak interrupted only by the distant thundercrack of calving glaciers
  3. Watching penguins break through the water’s mirror-like surface while zodiac cruising around placid bays
  4. Entering the Lemaire Channel as thick clouds lifted and seeing the reflections of the mountains and all the details of the glaciers and ice. Beautiful.
  5. Becoming even more excited about the mesmerising wildlife and scenery because of the expertise of our expedition guides. Their enthusiasm for Antarctica is contagious!

More about me

  • After completing my Marketing and Management degree, I went on an awe-inspiring eight-month solo journey across South America.
  • Before joining Swoop, I sold small-group adventure tours before setting foot on Antarctica for the first time
  • I love adventure: I got my Open Water PADI in Koh Tao, Thailand and I learned to kitesurf in Essaouira, Morocco
  • I grew up in Southern Spain and spent my childhood travelling between the beautiful city of Seville and my relatives’ home in the English countryside
  • Having recently travelled on the most expensive expedition ship ever built, I now have a taste for luxury expedition cruising!

Take some binoculars and spend as much time out of your cabin looking out for wildlife on deck and speaking to the expedition team as you can. There's something magical to see everywhere you turn.
